In addition, the University offers four Doctoral Schools: Bio-Med-Chem Doctoral School, Doctoral School of Humanities, Doctoral School of Social Sciences and Doctoral School of Exact and Natural Sciences. More than 24 000 students attend the University of Lodz. This figure includes students of all levels: those of bachelor and master degree programmes, as well as postgraduate, and PhD students. Each year there are many international students studying full time/ degree studies or within exchange programs at the University of Lodz! We hear a lot of languages in the halls of the University. Thus, a diverse multicultural and multigenerational community is built, drawing on the best traditions of the city of Lodz.

The University of Lodz is a public (state) university in Poland. As a responsible higher education institution, it focuses its actions on intercultural and social integration. Home to Innovative Ideas

In 2017 the new identity of the University of Lodz came into life. The whole rebranding idea refers to the university mission and the values that lie at its core – community, innovation for development, openness, and unity in diversity. A strong inspiration for the concept came from the works of the first rector of the University of Lodz, Professor Tadeusz Kotarbiński - "a man of good work," whose remarkable intellect inspired an entire generation of Polish scientists and creators of culture. His influence on the formation of the university was manifested in bold undertakings, guaranteeing freedom of research and teaching, as well as in the attitude to the future - making changes aimed at the next generation. His belief and experience is reflected by our new marketing slogan - Free your mind. New image contributes to the creation of a coherent image of the university in the Polish and foreign educational environment. Rebranding of the University of Lodz received many awards from the graphic designers’ associations in Poland.

Learning polish

If you plan to study in Polish but don't know the language yet, you can learn it at the UL Polish Language Centre for Foreigners.

The University takes pride in the first Polish Language Centre for Foreigners in Poland which is the oldest centre of its kind in Poland. It has been in operation since 1952.

The main activities involve educating foreigners in the fields of the language, history and culture of Poland, training the future teachers of Polish as a Foreign Language, cooperating with Polish Embassies and Institutes of Polish Culture abroad, writing and publishing widely used by other schools textbooks and teaching materials, organising meetings and conferences at national and international level.

The school runs courses which prepare foreign students for their studies in Poland. It offers basic courses of Polish as well as thematic Polish language courses in history, geography, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and philosophy, with a view to giving prospective students the knowledge needed in Polish institutions of higher education.

Accommodation and other important info

Academic campus of the University of Lodz is known in Lodz as Lumumbowo. The name stems from the address, as the first UL dormitories were located at ul. Lumumby, in a charming and green part of the city. Lumumbowo is located at the tram terminal (in the language of Lodz “krańcówka”) from which you can easily get to the main buildings of the University of Lodz in the city. Some Faculties are located in the direct neighbourhood of the dormitories.
